The XXXIII Symposium on Mathematical Physics will be held at the Institute of Physics of Nicholas Copernicus University in Torun, Grudziadzka St. 5, beginning Tuesday, June 5, at 10.00 am, and closing Saturday, June 9, around noon.
Registration will be held on Monday, June 4, 18.00-22.00, in all hotels lodging the participants, and on Tuesday morning - from 8.30 at the Institute of Physics. The registration fee of $120 (500 zl) covers the conference materials, lunch tickets, the social  programme, coffee and refreshments, and the Proceedings. Accompanying person fee of $60 (250 zl) covers lunch tickets and the social programme.
ACCOMMODATION
Participants of the Symposium will be lodged at the following hotels:
Helios  -  Kraszewskiego St. 1, tel: (48-56) 619 6550, fax: 619 6254
Pod Czarna Roza  -  Rabianska St. 11, tel/fax: (48-56) 621 9637
University guest house DS-10 on the Bielany Campus  - Gagarina St. 27, tel: (48-56) 611 4945.
Please, consult the "HAVING ARRIVED IN TORUN" section below for the directions. The hotels, except for DS-10, are located either in (Pod Czarna Roza) or very close (Helios) from the old centre of Torun, and also within a walking distance from the Institute of Physics.  Bus line 15 is the most convenient connection between the Bielany Campus and the Institute of Physics (3 stops each way).  However, it is also no more than a 20-minute pleasant walk to reach the Institute from DS-10.

Hotel bills are to be paid individually by the participants.  The prices given below include breakfast.

ENTRY VISAS

In principle, no entry visas are necessary for a short visit in Poland. This applies in particular to EC and USA citizens.  If you need a visa, a letter of invitation from the Symposium organizers will be sent to you by fax or otherwise upon request.
MONEY
Polish monetary unit is 1 zloty (zl or PLN) = 100 groszy (gr). Denominations in use are 200, 100, 50, 20 and 10 zl for banknotes, and 5, 2, 1 zl for coins.  Foreign currency can be exchanged in banks and numerous licensed exchange offices (kantor).  Traveler's cheques and major credit cards are widely accepted.  Current exchange rates are approximately 1 US $ = 4 zl, 1 DM = 2 zl.
WEATHER
June in Poland is usually mild and sunny with temperatures in the range of the 20's C (70's F).  Occasional showers and somewhat lower temperatures are possible.
HOW TO GET TO TORUN
"Polski Express" bus company operates a shuttle service from Warsaw airport to Torun (direction Bydgoszcz - Szczecin).  It is the most convenient means of transportation if your flight arrives at daytime. Tickets are available on the spot from "Orbis" travel agency office at the airport (arrivals level) or directly from the driver.  The price of one-way ticket is approximately 35 zl.  Coaches from the airport stop at Warsaw Central - the main railway station in Warsaw; at some hours you may need to change for the Torun coach there (see the timetable below).

If you plan on taking a train from Warsaw to Torun anyway, it is a good idea to purchase your ticket from the "Orbis" office at the airport right after your arrival rather than at Warsaw Central.

To get to the Warsaw Central Station from the airport you can use a licensed taxi (MPT or SAWA) at the "Arrivals" level or a radio-taxi 9669 from the "Departures" level (about 25 zl). You may also take the Polski Express coach (as mentioned above). City bus line 175 from the airport is the cheapest solution (tickets sold at newsstands) but it is also notorious in Warsaw for pickpockets.

          "POLSKI EXPRESS" TIMETABLE  (A - arrival, D - departure)
Warsaw Airport    D   every hour on the hour,   first 7.00, last 20.00
Warsaw Central    A    20 minutes past the hour, first 7.20, last 20.20
Warsaw Central    D    30 minutes past the hour, first 7.30, last 20.30
Torun                    A    the entire trip from the airport takes 4 h 15min

If you arrive in Poland by rail, the station to change for Torun will most likely be Poznan or Warsaw.  These and other major Polish towns, like Gdansk or Wroclaw, are well connected by rail with Torun.  A few of the trains are listed below.  Please, note that apart from trains, in Warsaw you can also take "Polski Express" shuttle (cf. above) - the stop is located on the western side of the Warsaw Central station building, on Al. Jana Pawla II.

Railway stations in many countries are not considered the safest places,  and Poland is no exception.  Very simple precautions, like a bit of extra attention, especially avoiding the crowd when boarding a train, are usually sufficient to secure your belongings.
